Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5
This scripture was written for me.
Not all creativity is original. I should know. I copy everyone else. Lately this has just been a sounding board.

Just Keep Swimming
January 2010 has been the worst month of my life. Ever.
EVER.
I have to rely on my willpower to get myself through life as it comes at me. I will persevere. I will come out on top.

If you read ONE thing today, let it be this:
A member of my family (not Rod or Rachel) had something very, very negative happen to them earlier this week. They are juvenile age, so I will refrain from giving their name, and will refrain from disclosing their sex. It involved inappropriate behavior in a public restroom at a retail outlet. The backlash from this is already out of control because of the profession of the offender. My family member was the victim.
To all my friends who read this: Please tell your children it is okay to tattle on grown-ups who do inappropriate things around them. Let your children know that their safety is the most important thing to you and that you will go to any extreme to defend them.

To extract, or not to extract?
Oh, the flu-like and strep throat-like symptoms are trying so desperately to break me down! I will fight and be victorious!
But first, let me get some pliers....
To extract a few teeth at this very moment would be a nice reprieve from the pain in my cheeks and sinuses.

What a week
I feel like I have been run over with a Mack truck, what with this whatever it is I have. My NP said I have "flu-like symptoms" and would be down and out for 4-5 days. This is the end of day 4. I am going back to work tomorrow because I don't feel comfortable missing more work than what I've already missed. I'm here to tell you that my head is spinning, my voice is still gone, my teeth still long to be pulled out to relieve the pressure my nose is making me well aware of. My ears aren't as plugged as they were, but I still hear squeaking when I blow my nose. TMI, sorry.
Alas, and alack, I cannot complain. I am alive. I have two legs that work. I have two feet, two hands, and two eyes that allow me to be functional. My ears can hear. Not so well, but they still work. My husband loves me, my daughter loves me, I have a house over my head, friends who love me, a job, an almost puppy, and I am working toward achieving my dream. What else can I want?

Shoplifters
So part of my new job is handling all of the empty packages from stolen items. As I have scanned some of these things, I have thought...
"I hope the makeup you stole makes your face break out and you look like a pizza!"
"I hope the prego tests you stole show that you really ARE pregnant!"
"I hope the condoms you stole break and you get your girlfriend pregnant!"

Oh boy, I've got joy
I am going to do my BEST to keep that mantra in the back of my head. I've been waiting for a response from the person in charge of the Chemistry 1115 lab on Monday nights. Since I'm planning on going to the U of U, I have to take the lab. Anyway, the class has been closed for registration because it reached capacity. I got an email from the guy tonight saying that I'm first on the list if I can't register online. Well, I checked, and sure enough I was able to get in. That, in turn, brings about the need to drop my psych class. Why? Because it's a 3-credit class that counts toward my nursing application and I don't want to seriously cause damage to a class that counts. So instead, I dropped that and registered for a medical terminology class on Wednesday nights. That keeps me at 12 credits. Good. Now I am taking 5 classes. BAD. Bad, bad, bad.
Tomorrow night is my book group. We read Trail of Crumbs. Sharee is making a few of the recipes out of the book (French cuisine - YUM) so we will have a light supper with the discussion. I was planning on making corned beef with cabbage and red potatoes for dinner tomorrow, but I think that's going to have to wait one more day. I want to go to book group with an empty tummy.
I also have tomorrow off, so I'll definitely be living up the last day of freedom until April 29th.
Wish me luck!

My Favorite Things
2010!
Come hell or high water, this year is going to be better than the last!
On another note, I am shamelessly stealing (and have been given her blessing, which forgives the stealing) an idea from my friend Nicole's blog. I love reading her posts. They are amazing. And no, I'm not trying to be part of the mutual admiration society that it seems the world's turned into. Nicole's blog blows me away. ♥
I have so many things I need to do and keep a running list in my head. Do any of those things get done? Not really. Why is that? Because I'm the only one who knows about them, and there is no accountability. So, dear reader, I am kicking off the new year with an admission of my goals ~NOT resolutions~ so that I will hopefully keep up with them and turn my "to do" list into a "did" list.
(And in my effort to start on those goals, I actually discovered something just now that will make me seem like an idiot but feel like a GENIUS! There's a "compose" tab - BRILLIANT!)

January Goals
- Go on ONE legitimate date with Rod. This does not include lunch breaks or late night trips to Walmart.
- Paint the hallway, including the trim.
- Devote daily time for scripture study - at least 15 minutes.
- Walk 30 minutes 5x a week, or do Wii Fit for 30 minutes 5x a week.
- Learn how to make my blog look prettier, so I can be less woeful in my inability to be creative.
Semester Goals
- Maintain a B Average.
- Get a Chemistry tutor. Pricey, but necessary. Absolutely necessary.
- Pull my overall GPA back up to a decent one so I can start preparing to transfer to the University of Utah.
2010 Goals
I know this is a crude list, but it is a work in progress. There are many, many more goals I have listed on the paper in front of me. I'm going to have to learn how to budget my time more wisely, that's for sure.
- Reduce consumer debt by 50%.
- Drink more water, and less soda.
- Eat more veggies, and less salty snacks.
- Paint the kitchen and the kitchen cabinets.
- Paint the front room.
- Paint the ceiling.
- Spend more time thinking about blessings instead of looking at the negative.
- Make more Rachel time.
